Title: BPO research
Post by: Invelious on 11 May 2011, 10:41
Anyone know the numbers for Time and Material eff. research. Basically whats the max to research them up too. I know there is a point to reach where it becomes pointless to continue to research, i just don't know that limit. For Amarrian vessels only.

If you look up the blueprint in EVEMon it will tell you the mathematically perfect ME level.  On many ships this is measured in hundreds of levels.  However, ME 10 is going to reduce waste from 10% to 0.9%, and any improvement beyond ~ME 50 is going to be so small as to be negligible on most blueprints.

You also might want to get some additional background in research and manufacturing (http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Research_and_manufacturing).

the really short version: A BPO has a material wastage factor. The wastage factor will be:

10%/(1+ME)

So an ME 0 bp is gonna use 10% extra materials, ME 1 will use 5%. ME 4 will use 2% extra. ME 9 = 1%, etc.

So you've got a steep drop in usefulness after me20 or so. If you're gonna make a ton of them, me 50 might be worthwhile, and it's where people expect it to be if you're gonna resell the bpo.

PE is the same way, except with a base of 25% rather than 10%. So a PE 0 bpo is going to take 25% longer than perfect to build. PE 4 will take 5% longer. after PE 10 or 20, it's really not making much difference anymore.

Note: These are BPO qualities and don't take into account additional material usage because you're being silly and trying to produce stuff without training production efficiency 5 and industry 5.

Also worth noting that some blueprints have a bill of materials that only requires a few input components.  If the number of individual components needed is less than 10 for each, the stock BPO is already functionally 'perfect' at ME 0 and researching won't change a damn thing.  Also, if you're inventing T2 stuff, it's going to come out at ME/PE -4 regardless of the research levels on your T1 prints.

I recently found an extremely handy tool by the name of "Java Material Level Calculator" - it's a standalone Java program which, given inputs such as your skills, ME/PE desired, current ME/PE, copies wanted, etc... will give you a bunch of different outputs (research/build time, wasted material, total cost, ME at which you gain further efficiency per mineral type, etc).

They need to re-evaluate the research mechanics in general.  'Nuff said.

I'll find out in 10 years when the markets I play in have collapsed in such an order that the first letter of the name of every item that failed spells out 'EyjoG was here'.
Electron Blasters, Yan-Jung Technology, Jump Drive Calibration, Oxygen Isotopes, Gneiss, Weapon Upgrades, Antimatter, Shadow, Heavy Missile Launcher I, Enyo, Retribution, Eos, respectively
Thanks for the replies gents. Basically im going to research all the bpos to 100 for both me and pe and that includes the capiltal bpos, lets see if ccp is around that long for me to see that day lol
