I write to announce a writing contest for stories or poems by Capsuleers. There is no minimum length. Maximum length is 30,000 words. There is no required subject matter; the content may be fiction or non-fiction. All entries will be considered.
Submissions are to be made to me via the galnet message system. If the submission exceeds the limits of a Galnet message to me, contact me privately for an alternate address the submission may be sent. If you wish to submit your entry on the Eve Fiction forum, you certainly are welcome to do so but mail me that you want it considered for the contest before October 15th.
Deadline for submissions is October 22 of this year. Winners will be announced at the Wine tasting at the Golden Masque on November 8th at 20:00
Due to the number of submissions, I have increased the awards by another 350 million and broken the contest into three categories.
Poetry (12 submissions accepted)
1st: 250 million
2nd: 150 million
3rd: 100 million
4th; 50 million
5th: 25 million
6th through 12th: 2 million
Prose (7 submissions accepted)
1st; 250 million
2nd; 150 million
3rd: 100 million
4th: 50 million
5th through 7th: 2 million
Non-Fiction (News/Treatises/Etc.)
1st: 250 million
2nd: 150 million
3rd: 100 million
4th: 2 million
Winners will be invited to give a reading at the Raven Poetry House in Nahyeen (depending on length, the reading may be limited to selected excerpts.
The most "amusing" or "entertaining" gets treated to dinner by me (heretics, notorious criminals or apostates excluded from the dinner prize).
All winners will be Published in the New Eden Times published by Lady Evelyn Meiyi.
As the judge, I am disqualified. (I did contact several people to be judges, sadly they all wanted to try to enter the contest!)
All entries will be considered.
I would like to thank sponsors who have stepped up to graciously help me increase the prizes, and incentive for participation
Norrin Ellis of Venture Racing with a 1 billion isk donation
Ishuk-Raata Enforcement Directive with a 250 million isk donation
Custom Clothing Productions has donated a delightful ensemble for the highest award winning female capsuleer consisting of a black top, black pants, black tights, shoes and accompanying tattoos. The "Women's 'Avenue' Shirt (Black)" is not available in NES!
*if the quality of the entries does not merit the number of prizes, then prizes will be given up to the number deemed meritorious
((This is an In Character/Roleplay writing contest. The expectation is the submissions, whether 'fiction' or 'non fiction' would be in character to the capsuleer submitting it. All submissions are expressly subject to the TOS and I certainly do not claim ownership. The submission of course, however, must be yours. ))

Nifty idea.

Awwah. No heretics.

Awwah. No heretics.
heretics are quite welcome to enter and may win a prize.
Luna just won't have dinner with them
Yes, she is trolling for a possible date!
-
Well, in that case... *cracks knuckles before setting up the typewriter*
-
But think what a fabulously scandalous date it'd be! Heresy is so hawt right now.
-
im so game you got no idea man im not even using grammar

I would SO love to be part of this but my muse is a bit scattered and being stubborn as hell lately. This is about all I could come up with, and it was from a few weeks ago.
When infinite skies lose all light of interest
And rock and soil return to primacy
What can the immortal do, to best
The slow, roiling ennui of eternity?
-
All my silly joking aside, I may have a character submit something. It is a neat idea.

There is no minimum word count ! Go ahead and send it to luna :)

Awwah. No heretics.
Well... 'no heretics' would only mean people like Nauplius and Odelya. Just being a Republic/State/Federation citizen doesn't make you a heretic. :P
-
/me coughs
-
To whom do I submit the writing? How do I submit?
-
Submit to me!
Per the above:
If the submission exceeds the limits of a Galnet message, contact me privately for an alternate address the submission may be sent. It was more a joke than anything, although any writing would come from an apostate character anyhow. Great initiative, but got no one that could join in, really.

Well since Norrin is giving Luna an extra billion for prizes, I'll update the numbers and add 11th-15th I already have 4 submissions and several commitments to submit so I hope people take advantage of the excuse to get their creative juices flowing.

A writing contest?
...
So wish I could remember which Amarrian bar that was in where people were making up/reciting poems and songs. I must have been in a RL creative mood that night as I made up something completely on the fly.
These days I'm not .. mm for a lack of a better term, not feeling so good. (RL sucks? I and my body dislike change and theres just been too much of it as of late.)
Aldrith MUST ATTEND of course, it is only absolutely required. Maybe someone should make him judge, being a Poet and all. :p

Arista it was the Raven Poetry House in Nahyeen, which not coincidentially is where the readings for the winners will be held :)
I don't use it often but that's what it's for. I suspect I dragged you there one night :)
Also I updated lead post to reflect new prize amounts.
-
If you need a co-judge, I'd be happy to lend a hand! Else I will write an poetic essay or so, I guess. <,<
-
Maybe I'll warm up my iambic pentameter engine. I'm pretty good at epic poetry, used to go to a poetry reading thingy in EQ2 once a week..
-
Friendly reminder. if you send me your submission to my email account (linked to luna's info here at backstage) please let me know your character name so credit can be given!
-

You realize that since there are 15 prizes, if less than 15 non-apostates respond, your apostate gets their work published by an Amarr do-gooder.
Just saying...

What are the rules regarding the submission of multiple works? For example, would it be possible to send in multiple short poems and have the possibility of the best regarded one being selected for a certain prize?
Also, what are the policies regarding submission of multiple works through alternate characters?

Multiple submissions are fine. (including by more than one character).
I may treat poems or other very short works as one submission (a poetry collection) in my discretion if submitted by one character and thematically related.
Also, I am not awarding 15 prizes just cause I get 15 submissions. Awards will be given to those who merit it :) although given what I've seen so far, I am pretty confident all 15 will be awarded.
-
Addendum:
I assumed it need not be said, but any work submitted should be the writer's own.
-
I believe this calls for public shaming. :D
No, no. That's wrong.

No, no. That's wrong.
No, it's right. People should know better than to do that shit.
-
Due to an OOC medical issue for one player, I am extending the deadline for all submissions another week to October 22nd.
I've gotten 15 very good submissions so far and I'll make sure everyone gets a prize for at least participating at this point. I've been very pleasantly surprised :) The hard part is going to be judging and picking the top 4....
-
Woo, an extension. I might be able to get something in, then.
-
Updated to reflect that the winners will be announced nov. 8th at 20:00 eve time at the wine tasting.
Also updated to reflect the revised award structure based on the sheer number of submissions and the range of content.
