Title: EVE: Source
Post by: Sofia Roseburn on 13 Feb 2014, 11:54
Now on sale (https://store.eve.com/eve-source/eve-source-127).

CE master race representing, they sure sold out quick.

Also reporting in as CE master race.  Also pre-empting my apocalyptic nerd rage when musterbrand fluff my order again and delete all account related evidence of purchase after shipping!  (Got the 10 year CE, but for a month it 'didn't exist' according to customer support, the issue has still not be resolved technically - but I got the goods so stopped petitioning).

Moral of the story - I do not learn from my own mistakes, only yours :(

CE master race, but I know nothing about Source or how they're related.  Please explain like I'm 5.

Contents shamelessly stolen from the site:

A beautiful black clamshell protective box with an embossed silver logo.
Two lithographs by EVE artists Borkur Eiriksson and Georg Hilmarsson in a protective sleeve.
The first 500 copies sold of the Limited Edition include the lithographs signed by each artist.
An anodized aluminum commemorative and numbered plaque embedded in the protective box.
A unique CCP “source” code redeemable on the EVE Account Management site (https://secure.eveonline.com/)
The limited edition is bound in matte black JVP with embossed silver logo.

Three tiers:

Master race tier: Limited run of 500 copies, artist signed lithographs and fancy book case.

Oligarchy tier: Limited run of 900 copies, same as above but your artwork is worthless.

Peasant tier: Hardcover copy of the book, no extras.

Oh, I had to order it.  Meh.  Kinda pinching pennies right now.  Two stepdaughters recently acquired and a daughter of my own arriving in May.  If someone wants to buy me one as a wedding gift I wouldn't say no.

I think I got my CE on release day in the UK. I think.

Bought the CE, was massively underwhelmed with the crappy rifter but I want this book I want it now oh god.

Also it better have stuff on NOH or I will be pissed.

Is there going to be version of this for us poor people? I'd really like the book. I don't really care about the extras, but I can't afford to pay like 90 dollars for a book.
Title: Re: EVE: Source
Post by: Elmund Egivand on 13 Feb 2014, 19:58
I will need to recheck prices again to be sure but there is a regular copy and an e-book version coming. E-books are bound to be cheaper but there are no prices for that yet.

Also, man, those limited editions fly off the shelves fast. Too bad I might need to get the electronic version because Musterbrand does not ship to Singapore.

Not necessarily, often they are the same price and sometimes they can oddly be more expensive.

In the Uk e-books are liable for vat whereas print books are not, making Orange's statement especially true on this grey hunk of over taxed rock.

For those of you wondering about the price/where of the standard: http://www.amazon.com/EVE-Source-CCP-Games/dp/1616552719

From the Amazon description: "never-before-released material detailing the settings, stories, races, and factions of the EVE universe."

Hopefully that isn't a gross exaggeration. I am really trying not to be hopeful that this will be a massive, cohesive PF dump for us. No hope. Bad Jace, don't believe in hope.
Title: Re: EVE: Source
Post by: PracticalTechnicality on 14 Feb 2014, 10:08
Half of me hopes for detailed, insightful and world building fiction.

The rest is hoping for the ultimate retcon schadenfreude singularity of the decade, on a scale that will make Mat Ward look like someone you'd want handling your IP.
Title: Re: EVE: Source
Post by: Morwen Lagann on 14 Feb 2014, 10:16
You're safe hoping for a massive PF dump. There should be a lot of new or updated/fleshed-out material. Two examples I know of are that we'll be getting population counts/estimates for the Big 4 and discussion of capsule and cloning technology as well.

Both of which have implications of potentially amusing/schadenfreude moments, so you should be happy, Ael. :P

There will also be cutaways (http://cdn1.eveonline.com/www/newssystem/media/65216/1/crosssection.jpg) for some ships.
Title: Re: EVE: Source
Post by: Jace on 14 Feb 2014, 10:28
I won't mind a giant pseudo-retcon "reorganizing". PF collections like this are meant to do that for canon - settle issues, become the definitive source. Hence, ya know, the name.

Edit: Also, it may help them avoid future contradictions with future novels. Hand the author the Source book: "Don't veer."

As one who invested heavily in Eve lore to such an extend that it was practically my major reason for subscribing to the game, I am obviously going to buy the "cheap ass" version of the book.

I have learned my lesson.

I opted for the e-book version off Amazon £12.something so about $25 (I think) I never bought the CE but I'm considering it now, was/is it worth it.
Title: Re: EVE: Source
Post by: PracticalTechnicality on 18 Feb 2014, 04:58
The CE, both the 10th Anniversary Box and this, is not 'pound for pound' worth the investment on material and e-goods alone.  But if you're particularly into fan-collectibles then they do present a fairly one of a kind opportunity when they come with 'all frills' such as the signed lithographic art.

As with any collectible, you're paying a premium for some minor guarantee of rarity.  The book itself is already being sold on sale and was the subject of a Valentines sale on the Musterbrand store last I checked, so if you just want the book, I strongly advise going the most economical route possible as there is no attached resale or collector's item benefit to ownership.

This. While I would have enjoyed having the CE, I didn't get it because I'd rather have collectibles that will maintain their value. This isn't one of those that in twenty years will be worth a whole lot. It is purely for one's own enjoyment of obtaining rather than traditional collecting.

Obviously, there is nothing wrong with obtaining something purely for your own enjoyment. Collectables aren't always about future value. We're not talking about first printings of Dracula or something here.

Anyone here who ordered the standard edition from TFAW get a shipping notification yet? My order still says pending. Which is annoying, since it's already going to take ages to get here due to being international (still annoyed CCP wouldn't let us order the standard edition from Musterbrand, seeing as that would have been a lot faster and cheaper for us Euros...).

Oops, nevermind. Estimated delivery in five days.

Glad to know that CCP's devblog said that only Musterbrand and TFAW would be releasing on March 5th and everywhere else would be releasing on March 18th (Amazon's website even says that March 18th was the release date, not March 5th), only to go back on that and have Amazon release on March 5th anyway.

So now I'm probably spending more and getting it later than everyone else because I ordered from TFAW and not Amazon. Fuck you CCP.
Title: Re: EVE: Source
Post by: Jace on 06 Mar 2014, 11:23
For all I know, Amazon has no idea what it is saying. I didn't get a "It Has Shipped" notice like normal, just an estimated date attached to the order. It is entirely possible that Amazon is basing that date on the official release date and it won't actually ship.
Title: Re: EVE: Source

Could be they'll ship a couple of days ahead so it'll be delivered to your door on the street date. Not unusual for them, IIRC.

My Le arrived at like 9am this morning woop

CURSE YOOUUU.

Mine hit the US early March 5th, but at that point it goes dark. The transition was to USPS, but USPS also contracts its high-priority shipping to FedEx in some cases. The messy thing is, then, that while I have a tracking number for USPS, I don't know if it's actually coming USPS, FedEx, or where the package entered the US-- whether by an east coast postal hub, or via polar flight to a west coast hub. So. It could arrive at my apartment today, it could arrive in a week.

Anyone have any pictures of the 'Source' clothing? I checked out the in-game goods via the market, and they look like a pair of fairly regular +4 implants, and a men's and women's coat that didn't render. :x

Title: Re: EVE: Source
Post by: Jurou on 07 Mar 2014, 14:33
It's quite good. Dont expect pages on each Mega Corp for example, but it does have a couple of pages of ~caldari life~ and so on. Same goes for each faction.

It's basically a huge book of fluff, rather than ~loads of  in depth info~ on particular things.

Few stories that are a few pages long err... chapters on tech like stargates. Each main pirate faction gets a fat chunk of the book talking about it.

I havent really gone into the book much because I am basically just hawking in on the stuff I have a interest in (NOH... For example. Which has about 100 words dedicated to it, as do the other megas... bit dissapoint I suppose)
