Title: [BLOG] Crux Meander
Post by: Vieve on 11 May 2010, 08:10
Yay, more shameless promotion of useless crap!  At least it's new crap this week, instead of stuff from the archives.

Glimpses, Part Two (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2010/05/glimpses-part-two.html).

What can I say?  Slow day.   Here's some ancient history mixed with something that could have happened ten minutes ago.

Celeste's back to keeping diary entries again.  May Fate, Diligence, Fortune and the Mercies help us all.

Yep, two in one week.  This one's allegedly responsible for dragging Arvo kicking and screaming into the blogsphere.

Okay, maybe not so much with the kicking and screaming yet.

His blog's here:  The Katsuya Express (http://podlogs.com/katsuya/)

Crux's current entry's here:  Liminoid (3) (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2010/06/liminoid-3.html)

The name of the blog comes from the Crane he rides.

Also, it isn't befitting a Civire with a tough exterior to come out kicking and screaming.

...maybe during a Barbara Walters special.

Newish stuff: In Passing (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2010/06/in-passing.html)

In retrospect, the text chat between Sabi and her cousin Lon (Lieutenant Commander Roland Fauconnier, FedNav Surveillance) was pretty damn prescient.  Too bad Lon, as talented as he is, just wasn't able to predict the specifics of the Ardallabier raid.

Old stuff (because I'm still cleaning stuff off the hard drive):  Tilting at Poissons (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2008/01/tilting-at-poissons.html).

A glimpse into Vieve and Gerrard's relationship, two weeks prior to the Jules-provoked engagement (as detailed in Liminoid (2) (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2010/05/liminoid-2.html)).

Post by: Vieve on 15 Jul 2010, 09:32
Oh, crap.

I forgot to mention that I made some updates last week during vacation.  There's a lot of current stuff in the hopper and...

Sorry.  There's just no good way to convey insane cackling in text.

Ahem.

There were two entries from the archives:

Lithification (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2009/09/lithification.html)
The Trouble That Came to Me (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2009/09/trouble-that-came-to-me.html)

... and then there was the introduction of Suosio (http://backstage.eve-inspiracy.com/index.php?topic=416.msg4591#msg4591) as a possible recurring character (until someone kills her, and notice I didn't say unless) to Jonathan Morrison's The Courier: One Contract At A Time. (http://thecouriercontract.blogspot.com/)

I won't point out that particular entry, because I think y'all may appreciate the story more if you start with the blog from the beginning.

And the current stuff begins to bubble up from the hopper.

[cue insane cackling]

I just posted a three-part "chapter" called Simple Desires.  It covers some of the shenanigans Celeste's been up to in the last month or so (well, okay, a day's worth of those, really), and puts a bow* on a certain figure who's just appeared on the Caldari RP scene.

A Door In The Wall (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2010/08/simple-desires-part-one-door-in-wall.html)
Domination Games (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2010/08/simple-desires-part-two-domination.html)
Beautiful Liars (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2010/08/simple-desires-part-three-beautiful.html)

*Metaphorically speaking.  Or hypothetically speaking.  No actual ribbons were deployed during the co-authorship of this bit of fiction.

More random updates.  Do I continue to fail to do things in order?  Yup.  Does it matter?  Eh, likely not.

From least to most recent.

Peculiar Channels (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2010/07/peculiar-channels.html).  Celeste once confessed to Vikarion (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2010/07/economic-confessions.html) that Zagamesh had access to peculiar communications channels.  She never bothered mentioning that it inspired her to set up a new one of her own.

Collateral Damage (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2010/08/collateral-damage.html), where we get another glimpse at what's going on with Lieutenant Commander Fauconnier in a SDII white room. If it's SDII.  Or if it's a white room.

Shameful Truths (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2010/10/shameful-truths.html). Sometimes, Celeste likes to correct a problem herself.

My character seems to come up every now and then... makes me smile a little.

One of these days, Vieve should probably have a long chat with Uncle Dex.

And next up in the Soap Opera with Blasters, is The Next Time Down (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2010/11/next-time-down.html), the follow-up to the second section of Aftermath (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2010/08/aftermath.html) and all of Collateral Damage (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2010/08/collateral-damage.html).

I wrote this while being loopy on migraine meds. Can you spot all of the other source material I riffed from?
a) Methods of Torture: The Caldari (http://www.eveonline.com/background/potw/default.asp?cid=13-02-07a)
b) Methods of Torture: Gallente (http://www.eveonline.com/background/potw/default.asp?cid=29-01-07)
c) The Paths They Chose (http://www.eveonline.com/background/potw/default.asp?cid=30-06-08)
d) Babylon 5,"Intersections in Real Time" and "Between the Darkness and The Light"
e) Gladiator's wheatfield death threshold dreams.
f) Pretty much the entirety of A Beautiful Mind

And does Lieutenant Commander Roland Fauconnier look like a bookish Russell Crowe who's been strung out on drugs, had his brain barbecued by torture devices, and had the shit kicked out of him for four months by President Clarke's ex-President Foiritan's dark minions? Possibly.

Happy Friday, everybody.

The next episode's up.

The Next Time Around (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2010/11/next-time-around.html) is not only the follow-up to The Next Time Down (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2010/11/next-time-down.html), but it's also what can happen if someone reads one of my standard character infodumps and says 'I think I need more information'.

So, don't be as persistent as Marcus Gord.  Your Information Officers will thank you.  So will all their hapless minions.
West Wing fans: If the dialogue in this piece reads like some messed up version of chats that Josh and Toby or Josh and Amy could have, blame it on my currently watching my way through the series box set.
Been a bit busy lately.  It's fairly safe to say that this is going to continue for a while: I just started a consultancy gig that requires me to venture from the comfort of my fabulous home office.

But, hey, it's not like Celeste'd be turning up on the Summit or Heiian anyway.

Unfortunately, she still has a mother to worry about, and occasionally has her dinner interrupted by people who think she should be worrying about other things.

I've made some changes and additions to the Cast of Characters page.  As I've said before, if your character's listed and doesn't have an entry (or if you think your character should be here and have an entry), please let me know!

I've discovered the joy that is the jump/cut tag.  Soon, one will suffer 28% less optical duress when scrolling through the blog.*

Speaking of optical duress, the latest entry - Correction Protocol (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2011/01/correction-protocol.html) -- is up. My thanks go out to Vincent Pryce for his extraordinary patience and Degen Sankriga for his unwitting assistance**. I'll also mention (mostly for Seri's benefit) that there's a hideous amount of infodump in this entry: it contains bigger chunks of the Mies-system-writeup-from-hell that I'll probably never finish, as well as bits about makeup, fashion design, floral arrangements, good Khanid leather, and why one should never give a lot of money to a Mannar design firm.

*All other stated Disclaimers are still in effect. Use of Visine recommended.
**Odixie was a perfect choice.  Thank you.  Check your ingame wallet for the fifteen points I mentioned.

Escape Velocity (http://www.omertasyndicate.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=2100) was a multi-episode/multi-author serial that played out  in September - October 2008, and was posted on the Omerta Syndicate forum at points after that. The serial's 'success' was part of what inspired me to create an EvE fiction blog instead of scattering random stories across forums and inboxes -- thus concentrating them into one easily avoidable location. :)

I've just moved a copy of my solo/co-authored Escape Velocity contributions to Crux Meander.  Why?  Officially, because they help tie the very early stuff to the more contemporary crap.  Unofficially, because the busywork makes me feel less like I'm procrastinating (which I am, and not just on stuff I do for fun).

Oh, FYI, I did add some annotation to some of these, so they're not wholly like the original versions.  Honest.

Oh, hey, updates.

"Small Talk" (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2011/04/small-talk.html) is a peek at some of the stuff Celeste's been up to since she took an unannounced vacation from PRELI.  Well, at least the stuff that actually looks like it could happen on a vacation taken by a normal grandmother.  Call it a vacation from her vacation.
"Disconnect" (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2011/04/disconnect.html). Vieve has a face-to-face in the flesh meeting with an old friend.  Things don't go quite like he might have planned.  I think I've seen this movie before.
"Reconnect" (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2011/05/reconnect.html). Sab ... er, Bette forwards her CV to someone who might be interested in hiring her.
"Borrowed Lives" (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2011/06/borrowed-lives.html).  The latest is a followup to "Correction Protocol" (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2011/01/correction-protocol.html) and a side note to "Piling On, Part Two" (http://backstage.eve-inspiracy.com/index.php?topic=1827.msg30019#msg30019").

For even more information you probably don't want, there are now entries for Devon and Lalunina Hargrenier (and a few ... okay, maybe a dozen ... other folks) on the Cast of Characters page. Yes, Ze'ev, I added more to the character page since you wasted forty-five minutes of your life reading through it.  Cookie?

I also revised the other pages somewhat.  I had a recent request for a "The Story Thus Far..." page, but I'm not sure it'll help anybody understand what's going on.  Opinions?

Oh, good grief. I haven't updated this thread in a while.

There are two new things up.
"Background Noise (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2011/08/background-noise.html)," part of which was written with Ze'ev Sinraali's unwitting assistance.  You guys have likely already seen the rest of it.

"Performance Evaluation (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2011/08/performance-evaluation.html)", which was written with Jude Kopenhagen's wholly cognizant assistance.  It's a sequel to "Reconnect (http://cruxmeander.blogspot.com/2011/05/reconnect.html)", because, me?  Post a standalone story that doesn't require reading additional background material?  Ha!
