That light pits, used to hold ships in place, are filled with complex electronic equipment, have no safety boundaries, and are lit with a dim blue light when not in use? (The Burning Life p. 77)

On a more "serious" note:

Vieve: To stay out of history's way.
Sabi: To recover what she can of the past from the ruins of the present in defiance of an uncertain future.
Celeste: To make history stay out of her way.

Dossie's quest: Originally vengeance, but now she's got a bun in the oven and with Bill, maybe just a quiet life of death and destruction.
Mei's quest: To find the bottom of the barrel and live life to the full.

Alright, I'll give this a shot, too.

Quickie backstory: Shin grew up in a tiny and insular community in an asteroid in Luminaire.  The end.

Her main goal is to safeguard her clade - her family - who suffer from the same sorts of small-genepool problems that many very tiny and insular communities suffer from.  This has largely been accomplished, at least for the time being, at some personal and ethical cost to her.

That said, she's discovered that it's not really possible to go home again.  Her clade will survive, she has done her part in making sure of that, but they will survive without her.  So her other large goal at this point is to find some reason to get up in the morning and feel passionate about more than just "what shall I feed arf for breakfast"?

I think Max's heart longs for a true calling… some sort of a reason to live. But in reality most days are simply a struggle for him to get out of bed only to realise he is a meaningless cog in a massive machine of redundant cogs.

So, he keeps his dreams realistic… some nice hand-rolled Intaki cigars when he can get them (or Caldari machine rolled when he can't) and to have enough grain on hand to keep the dusty homemade still in the back of the shop cranking out the sauce. A cargo hold full of salvage, a fast frigate to work on in the shop and callused hands permanently stained with Lorentz fluid is enough to keep him "happy".

Little does Max know that despite his "Who gives a flying F" or "What's the use F it" attitude and lack of interest to do much besides drink, smoke and fix/build stuff… he is going to end up one of the best mechanics in the universe using his skills to aid the fight for freedom against oppressors and despots universe wide!

I may have to drag his sorry hung-over ass out of bed more than a few times before he gets there though.
