Firing a salvo
« on: 07 Nov 2010, 00:22 »

Okay, you pro-Feds (and I hope there are some out there), I've fired a shot. Anyone care to respond?

Gladly  :)

As an addition, thinking a bit more about Simon's eye-roll response has given me a whole new outlook on why Simon is a Federalist:  I always knew he wanted to remain a part of the Fed, but now I know why :D

In that thread, Simon gets into a running street battle with better rhetoricists :D

In this thread, I note that this sort of Intaki infighting pleases me!

It could be noted that arguments/debates similar to this one were had in the American colonies prior to the Declaration of Independence. It's often forgotten by Americans today, but it was a far from unanimous consensus that the colonies could and should break ties with the Empire.

The response from the Nationalist guy was awesome. Great writing.

It reads just like Bush-era rhetoric. With us/Against us kind of thing.

I love it.

In the case of secessionists, it's a bit more applicable  ;)

Thanks for brightening up my evening guys, but I need to get some sleep.  I'll try to pick it back up tomorrow if it hasn't been chewed to death by then.

I took a different approach. IRL, there are many ethnic groups that are white. Nordic, Celtic, whatever. But you can't really tell who is who, because they're all white, you just identify them as "white people".

In EVE, same thing. TBL mentioned a "black woman" but didn't overtly state she was Brutor. I think that it would be very hard for anyone to identify someone's ethnic origin just by LOOKING at them. With the new char gen, hair and costume is across all bloodlines, so I'm sure I could make a Gallente that looks like an Intaki, and vice versa.

Seriphyn has this approach IC, and instead of talking politics, he accused the ILF of racism, or some form of it. It may be incorrect, just pulling it out of nowhere, but he isn't the most bright sort in that regard anyway.

In the interest of having decent RP, why not consider approaching it without automatically contradicting the validity of the RP itself? No one else is doing so, not even Istvaan, so why bother?

In fact, this is good Federal RP. It reminds folk the Fed is not a single political ideologue, and genuinely provides some interesting and enjoyable interactions. It doesn't paint the Fed in a bad light, like with the SDII stuff, which you didn't like, so why is there a need to go "These people are false", if it actually encourages Fed RP, not blackens it?

Because fabricating prime fiction political entities out of thin air as a RP foil, then generating large-scale in character policies in response to said fabrications, will kill roleplay?

You know, back in the day, we used to actually have supporters for Mentas Blaque, and Foiritan. And the rest. Those were actual characters that existed, and had positions. A political debate was generated based on those positions.

Now, we have to whip together some nonsense so we feel that we have federal RP. Well, in my opinion, you don't need talking heads to have federal RP. Nor do we need to fabricate them.

[mod]Posters should feel free to take their own stances, but statements like "[this RP style] will kill RP" do not promote open discussion. Please review the FAQ for further guidance.[/mod]
