Cell shaded eve is hot
-
Chameleonic, cell-shaded Hurricanes: So much want
-
I like the yellow and black gallente ships the most :)
-
Lots of good work went into the renders, but fwiw I personally hope we never have that much control over hull appearance.
-
TimeToPenis = 5 sec?
-
*picks jaw up off floor*
-
Somebody just owned CCP.
-
I am perfectly fine with this being EVE's next visual update.
-
That blue and black Avatar at the beginning ...
Cool vid. Much prefer the notion of corp ship colors to personal ones.
-
Those corp colours are the ones we'll be seeing on the aurum store. I wonder if his fluff descriptions will make it through?
-
Doesnt fit at all to the current eve art direction.
But that looks very good, though.
-
looks very cartoonish and borderlands yeah, not really as realistic as eve is. Not bad though, I sort of like the hard lines, reminds me of early 2000s animated sci-fi, very similar to Titan AE. I sort of like it. Question is, does it run better or worse then current?

Very nostalgic, from the time when all Caldari ships looked like that - gun-metal grey with blood-red stripes.
I'm a little annoyed that the Caldari got that color-scheme, as Grey with Red detail has been among my favorite color-schemes for years, thus making the below on of my all-time favorite images, and I've not even bothered to go check what it's from.

Having said that, as much as I'd love a custom paint-job editor for ships (even for heavy pay in ISK/Aurum) I'm not sure the idea is manageable, and would likely go nasty places soon enough...
... but damn these are nice, nonetheless.

Yeah that's probably coming from the borderlands new trend (don't get me wrong, I love what they did on borderlands).
The good thing with a cell shaded eve like this is that the game would look older a lot less frequently. It already feels old and outdated graphically since the last major model/texture update on ships was done in 2007 (I am not speaking about the small technical updates they usually do with their engine, or the constant changes to ship skins, etc). And since it looks quite awesome already it could really fit to the first art direction they gave to eve, with a more stylized look to their characters, tech, etc. Which does not fit at all to their CQs, portraits, and Incarna current style either. Would be curious to see what our portraits would look like in cell shading.
However, cell-shading is usually extremely hungry in resources and I am pretty sure the game would need a lot of computing power to run with that kind of things. Borderlands, for example, is f*** hungry. Maybe it is not optimized at all, but I feel that the shader itself is extremely demanding.
-
This so needs to be in the game. Because why wouldn't a multibillionaire fleet owner customise their ships' appearance?
-
It's coming.
...for Aurum. :psyccp:

Ah. Of course. Because it's simply impossible for something to be simply done right these days. Monetise and be damned. :/
Speaking generally, I fucking hate the brave new world of dripfed shit with a passion. Zynga and their egregious ilk are emphatically NOT the model to aspire to. Established companies with good reputations should be looking down their noses at that sort of loathsome and desperate moneygrubbing. Because it's beneath them. Developers should focus on making fun and interesting games and leave the calculated exploitation to the scum.

The recent "changes to ship skins" are more than a paint job. The textures have been significantly revamped at the same time to improve lighting.

vOv The ship rebalancing campaign has added a lot of fun and interest in my EVE.

All KK ships have that same pattern, Crow, Flycatcher, Crane, Rook, Nighthawk, Widow (I think that is it).

Yep, and they have not changed any graphic assets, and they are still the same since Trinity for ships and structures. Same quality textures with minor tweaks, same 3D models with minor tweaks, etc.
Their last changes were done on the engine side mostly.
Of course they have done a lot of major changes on other things since Trinity : planets, turrets and missiles... That's maybe the only MMO I have seen to rework on their graphics so extensively.
-
T'Amber remains busy in his fortress of Eve related art (http://elios.co.nz/gallery/), and this time has developed an in-browser ship viewer (http://www.elios.co.nz/cppc/ardishapur_abaddon.html).
Only the Ardishapur Abaddon that I know of so far, but more may well be coming.
-
Well this is just some amazing artwork. Those paintjobs look gorgeous. The cell-shading should totally be used to make a dope ass EVE anime.

Ah, the perfect example of dramatic art whose potential impact is completely ruined by the insertion of a gawping, cretinous animu face. That image would be so much better if the face art style matched the rest of the grim robo-legion, but instead we get Inuyasha in a mech.
-
I'm not a friend of cell shading and comic-style games. So this is a big no-no for me. I admire the work put into it, of course, but it was a lost battle to try to win me with such a technique. :D

Oh? In that case Mr. Oostermann got it wrong himself :P The url is Vexor, and he named it Vexor on failheap as well.

And a few more:

At this point, I'm simply buffing my post count

What can I say, I like digital art :P

You would know Deadsie :3
And T'amber, I am such a huge fan of the black and white colour scheme :D Thanks for posting them :)
-
Can I steal all those images? That's the colour scheme our corp's ship's are supposed to have ICly, save for green windows and engines, and black stripes like the red ones on Kalakiota ships
-
CCP could use some of your textures tbh.

Tell me what ships and I will see if I can make what you need. The stripes may be problematic depending on which ship you need.

... so pretty...

Oh cool!
Here's a list of ships that'd be cool to see in this style, feel free to just like, pick whichever ones you think would be fun to do off this list, also I listed the T1 hulls but feel free to use the T2 hull versions:
Tornado
Hurricane
Cyclone
Stabber
Tempest
Maelstrom
Rifter
Ferox
Drake
Naga
Rokh
Blackbird
Merlin
Abaddon
Apocalypse
Ashimmu
Arbitrator
Omen
Punisher
Myrmidon
Thorax
Catalyst
Megathron
I obviously don't expect you to do all of these, and think it'd be cool if you just did one or two. The one I'm most interested in seeing like this is the Ferox, since I fly the nighthawk a lot and would love to see it in 'corp colours'
-
Awesome!
I would murder for a Kaalakiota Hookbill or Kestrel (Cambion seems to cover the Merlin already ;)). Bonus points for Moa and Caracal. :o

o lord, those will take me a while.
Let me finish the browser ship painting tool I am working on, and you'll be able to set your own colour scheme and then apply to multiple ships with up to 2 logos. It is going a little slow, but maybe finished in the next couple of months.
While you wait:

The following Abaddons look really weird, I hope to god they're not the final colours.

How I imagined them in my cel shader was much better: http://i.imgur.com/ujmtt.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/ujmtt.jpg)

Ship viewer?! Awesome!
T'Amber, question...this is the semi-official list (http://backstage.eve-inspiracy.com/index.php?topic=4938.msg79052#msg79052) for all the variations right? From that, there are 13 per race...and the Minnies are missing three. Any idea what they are? Presumably you had access to one of the feature test servers to find out the original lists?
