In which we gleefully inflict our musical tastes upon one another.
I am currently listening to: Hurt (http://youtu.be/SmVAWKfJ4Go) by Johnny Cash
The music video was filmed seven months before his death and three months before the death of June Carter Cash. It contrasts Cash's youth with the decay and frailty of the present moment.

Houtou for Touhou : Subterranean Animism (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hT4Y2dTU-k)
Thank you, for showing me another awesome musical-piece related to Touhou. :cube:
Seriously some of the best music I've heard has been made by bronies or Touhou fans. It's a little bizzare.

One of the best covers I've ever heard (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2zqlWZ3SbE)
American Authors are pretty unknown (:hipster:), but they don't have a single song I dislike.
Apart from that, Frank Turner (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1L5zJ2afLs) and London Grammar (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=as5FZJI6xJU) are pretty high on my playlist, swiftly followed by the new Fall Out Boy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMwK8AicNGE) and Paramore (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBatuRGZAmA) albums.
Whoo, eclecticism :yar:

This reminds me my last.fm (http://www.last.fm/user/rubicondance) account is a year out of date :T
Right now I'm listening to Ruiner (http://whores.bandcamp.com/track/tell-me-something-scientific) by Whores. Terrific band, terrific EP, eagerly anticipating more from them.

This is one of my favorite songs. First heard it on the Synthetic Pleasures soundtrack long ago. I listened to this while standing atop the highest tower in Angkor Wat and watching the sunrise burn away the mists over the rice paddies.

I'd be pleased as punch if these guys ever got famous.

Na Moey Zemle by Arkona, one of my favorite bands of ever. This song is extra epic, due to the fact that six different bands collaborated to make it, and each performs a part:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QClpr7qQ0o&NR=1&feature=endscreen
Followed up by Shaman from Amorphis:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caxIiNHLyGs
And rounded out by Jotunheim by Moonsorrow, an amazing masterpiece of modern metal, and possibly the most Sebiestor song in existence.

Been listening to this band Arkona mostly lately. Awesome stuff but I had to post this one song in particular since it made me think about Ava. The lead vocalist Masha in mind is the RL personification of Ava. The lyrics of the song and the video and the attire just feel so right for the character of Ava. Feel free to beat me with a stick if you disagree.

I recall when I was doing lvl4's in a pre-upgrade Incursus. Was about the only challenge left in any NPC content I knew of (before incursions) even if it was the most terrible way to run missions ever. But hey, if your bored enough.
Good music too.
And before I checked what you listened to, I was re-hearing this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Hd9sz4PSdA). Not exactly a song though.

Russkaja - Energia (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVWfqOSdzs4) - Russian Turbo Polka Metal
Kontrust - the smash song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9lCP-VIjQI) - German Alternative Rock
Агата Кристи - Черная Луна (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKpcp1Aj3h0) - Russian Alternative Rock
NikitA - Искусаю (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ws75-Q61OiU) - This uh... I guess safe for work if you live in Russia... It's a legitimate music video though... Better fap material than porn. I imagine Gallente pop music videos look a lot like this. Any how this a sort of a bonus vid, Russian Dance/Pop. "I watch this for the music".

Aalborg Fantasy Soundtracks - Easy Love (http://www.trackonerecordings.com/free_youtube_tracks/Aalborg_Fantasy_Soundtracks_Easy_Love.mp3)
Easily some of my favorite music, and what I imagine Caldari ambient music might be like. Maybe not the popular club music, but certainly the kind of traditional stuff you might hear. Lots of instruments in there. Wind instruments, various rattlers and sticks, drums, etc... perfect stuff.

I've been on a bit of a Zelda kick lately. I blame the announcement that the next Zelda game (for the Wii U) is likely to share a lot of similarities with Skyrim and other Elder Scrolls games in the open world exploration department. XD
You know that kind of "did they really just say that" phenomena in songs annoy me to this day. EVE has ruined one of my best songs because in the middle of it there is a section with some ambiance going in the background that I could *swear* sounds like "Warp drive active" being chanted REALLY low, in a barely audible manner. Ofc that's not the fact at all, but now whenever I hear it that damn line pops up in my head :/

Because of Silas, I logged into EVE yesterday and went, "Ooooh. Pretty." Then, I tried to find the jukebox to add some MP3s. After fussing, I just went to youtube and played
The Glitch Mob - Warrior Concerto (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lszdEZ0-74)
Then! I clicked the calendar open like three times from the clock in the corner before I found where they'd moved the undock button, which meant I had to restart the song again so I could fly a Crow past stars, asteroids, and gates.
Totally worth it~

Empire Carebear RPer Amarrian EVE song. Blues even! ;)
If it’s not one thing, it’s another
Flies buzzing around big as hawks
I'm not just screaming for my supper
I live in the ugliest house on the block
So what
Yeah, So what
I’ve been tryin to make a little money
If you got the honey, I got the pot
I’m tired of hearing that you're so lonely
I live in the ugliest house on the block
So get the hell off my lot
Yeah get the hell off my lot
Yeah, so what
Beating on a dead horse for filler
I don’t go over well with the live stock
These are serious times, there are serial killers
Next to the ugliest house on the block
I heard that they hate my house a lot
They say I ain’t got a shot
I know I ain’t got a shot
Yeah, so what
Entertainment's where it's at
Reality re-runs on crack
My own dad could give a crap
I'd wear his love if I had a hard hat
I would rob but I hate the cops
Sirens roar and guns go pop
And rock ‘n’ roll’s become hip-hop
Oh well..
So what.
Yeah, so what
Oh hell..
Suck it up
.
I swear to God I’m not a sinner
Yeah I know God likes me a lot
He has saved me in the river
So I’ll stay in the ugliest house on the block
I’ll stay in this ugly house til I rot
Be glad for what I got
Entertainment's where it's at
Reality re-runs on crack
My own dad could give a crap
I'd wear his love if I had a hard hat
I would rob but I hate the cops
Sirens roar and guns go pop
And rock ‘n’ roll’s become hip-hop
Entertainment's where it's at
Reality re-runs on crack
My own dad could give a crap
I'd wear his love if I had a hard hat
I would rob but I hate the cops
Sirens roar and guns go pop
And rock ‘n’ roll’s become hip-hop
You can’t be something that you’re not
And when I go lay my head down
I want a man to stay around
Who'll live in this ugly house
Oh well
So what
So what
Yeah, so what
Oh hell
So what
This sucks

Final moments of the CNS Shiigeru (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQHDKQbvdto)
The song starts out with comms traffic from the bridge of the CNS Shiigeru in her final minutes.
Nav Officer: "Captain we've LOST orbital stability!"
Yanala: "Shiigeru, 37th Squadron, we've lost orbital stabilizers."
"We are losing altitude quickly, Captain!! Wind shear is reaching critical levels!"
"What's the status on Oblivion?!"
"Oblivion offline and safed, Captain."
"Jettison the magazines. Eject the core." ... "This is Admiral Yanala, CNS Shiigeru, we are going down. I repeat, we are going down. All non-essential personnel, abandon ship."
Can imagine Yanala standing on her virtual bridge as it falls apart around her, the whole bridge lit by red flame from the windows. Standing proud and resolute as her crew flee for their lives, a tear streaming down her cheek as she stays completely stoic.
Facing her death with dignity.
As the reactor goes critical and explodes midair, the ship is sent into thousands of pieces, tumbling through the air until the very end of the song. The cacophany of noise, easily representing the white fireball that engulfs half the continent on impact, a several mushrooming clouds billowing up from the ground as more pieces impact and scour the surface.

We've been putting together a set of goth rock and metal to play, so I've been listening to a lot of that:
The Mission (UK): Severina (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eK200Dog32w)
Sisters of Mercy: Temple of Love (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROnXv7Z7v28)
The Cure: Lovesong (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXCKLJGLENs)
Type O Negative: Christian Woman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYz8W6kxviU)
Tiamat: The Truth's For Sale (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvZigEcodYI)
Katatonia: My Twin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPSGS-ymseI)
We'll need about 10-12 songs, we think, so there's room for some Fields of the Nephilim and Souxie and the Banshees, maybe some 69 Eyes. We had to stop last night though until we could get our drummer in.

Indeed. Actually, in my opinion it has been a great nine or ten months for rap and hip hop overall. MMLP2 is great, Drake's new one is great, etc. As well as electronic music, my other primary genre.

Edit: I have to say I've been on a kick of older stuff. Listening to some Meshuggah right now. Chaosphere. Talk about bruising your brain while you're working.

I have to admit, I know almost nothing about metal or rock in general. The only two genres I rarely listen to at all is country and the various subgenres of rock. The only exceptions being very specific rock artists like Janis Joplin, Soundgarden, and a couple others.

A bit off topic but I am sitting here stunned. Elina Garanca is pretty much visually a dead ringer for how I envision Luna if she was in real life. She's also the same age as Luna's clone. Wow! thanks Jace :)

If you like ambient stuff like this is highly recommend
Atra Aeterna - Monolithium (Official Video): http://youtu.be/k7G_YY62JZk (http://youtu.be/k7G_YY62JZk)
They do a lot of very spacey music all ambient stuff.
I listen to them a lot when I play Eve.
Boards of Canada is also another awesome "just drifting about" band. Dayavan Cowboy I think is the name of the Song I first heard by them, an excellent track.
Broke my heart when I found out they aren't actually Canadian :(
-
Both are lovely. I'm putting them in the favorites to check out full albums later.
-
Ah nice, I like ambiant. I'm very much into Solar Fields myself. Will definitely look up to Atra Aeterna.
Also, not quite the same, but currently into this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0eangK_KBo&index=5&list=PLTUlTwlsdlFTrjbZltuhnFcvWemE96yjb).

Just discovered a metal band I've never heard before and I'm sort of blown away. Monuments - The Amanuensis (album) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIR-HL2CwO8) is one hell of a ride. Apparently they're quite well known but I've never heard of them before. The guitarist in particular fills me with awe.
Having trouble keeping up with subgenres though. Never even heard of Djent before, but apparently this is it.

Hands down the most unique singer I've ever come across. Her songs range from intensely emotional, to upbeat, dancable tracks alongside slow and relaxing acoustic guitar. Seriously, you should all listen to this.
I would recommend Slowbirth, Mechanics of Emotion, Nobody Knows and Time for Us in particular.
-
System of a Down, various albums, 'cause I bought tockets for their Waking Up The Souls tour.
Give Marmelade (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLVYAerVZHs) a listen if you have not already, I find it quite catchy. It's been around for years, but you may have missed it.

Marilyn Manson - Holy Wood
and some K's Choice, particularly the first 5 songs of Cocoon Crash, Believe being #1.
I suspect this is because it fits Ché's current situation:
Bravely I look further than I see
Knowing things I know I cannot be, not now
I'm so aware of where I am, but I don't know where that is
And there's something right in front of me and I
Touch the fingers of my hand
And I wonder if it's me
Holding on and on to Theories of prosperity
Someone who can promise me
I believe in me
Tomorrow I was nothing, yesterday I'll be
Time has fooled me into thinking it's a part of me
Nothing in this room but empty space
No me, no world, no mind, no face
Touch the fingers of my hand and tell me if it's me
Holding on and on to Love, what else is real
A religion that appeals to me, oh
I believe in me
Can you turn me off for just a second, please
Turn me into something faceless, weightless, mindless, homeless
Vacuum state of peace
On and on and on and on and on and on and on and on
I believe in me
On and on and on and on and on and on and on and on
I believe in me
Wait for me, I'm nothing on my own
I'm willing to go on, but not alone, not now
I'm so aware of everything, but nothing seems for real and
As long as you're in front of me then I'll
I watch the fingers of our hands
And I'm grateful that it's me
Holding on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on
I believe in me
I'm willing to go on but not alone, not now
I'm so aware of everything
The bolded part really reminds me of the last bit of the Jita 4-4 chronicle, concerning the idea of the infomorph.

An excellent background for questions of identity in a border-posthuman setting.
My standing favorite is still Serial Experiments: Lain (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDAeOatiooM), despite its failed attempt to start up a dialog with us Westerners. It's was meant to be interpreted differently through Western eyes, but the execution is hamfisted and the end result is that the interpretation tends to be similar regardless of the viewer's culture.

Because <3 Prog-Rock + Sci-Fi (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJkoBNOPvjU)
The main motif used in Fargo. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETpNoIo_Bf0) The Hardingfele (Hardinger fiddle) folk instrument it's played on was associated with the devil in the 19th century and subsequently many of these fiddles were burned, but it really is a classic Norwegian folk instrument from earlier times, much like the Nyckelharpa (Keyed fiddle) from Sweden. Just really funny how people tend to view the Scandinavians as atheists and agnostics but they really have a rich Christian and particularly Lutheran background.

While playing Aria, in virtually any context?
Gazelle Twin, "The Entire City," tracks 1, 4-6, 9, and 12.
Videos are:
Track 4 - I Am Shell, I Am Bone (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t01dYTecfS8)
Track 6 - Changlings (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOXJS6iS1fg)
Track 9 - Obelisk (okay, not a video-- there's no official one, and the unofficial one is very interesting but not at all what I have in mind for Aria) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ixi24yxqPEc)
Stuff be way too goddamn on point. Everything else I had in my collection for her just grates by comparison.
Sadly, Gazelle Twin's second album, "Unflesh," drops appeal in favor of conceptual experimentation. It's still interesting and easy to admire, just not nearly as enjoyable.

Skunk Anansie - Smashes and Trashes album
Got hung on Weak. I've come to interpret it in relation to recent and not so recent events revolving around Aria Jenneth, from Ché's limited perspective. Below the (slightly tweaked) lyrics, (un)spoken by persons to Aria, unless noted otherwise:
Utari: Lost in time I can't count the words I said when I thought they went unheard
Utari, and Ché to Utari and Aria: All of those harsh thoughts so unkind
Utari and Ché: Cause I wanted you
Utari and Nauplius: And now I sit here I'm all alone - So here sits a bloody mess
Utari: ...tears fly home
Nauplius: A circle of angels, deep in war
Nauplius and Utari: Cause I wanted you
Ché, Utari and Nauplius:
Weak as I am, no tears for you
Weak as I am, no tears for you
Deep as I am, I'm no one's fool
Weak as I am
Ché:
So what am I now, I'm love last home
I'm all of the soft words I once owned
If I opened my heart, there'd be no space for air
Cause I wanted you
Utari, Ché and Nauplius:
Weak as I am, no tears for you
Weak as I am, no tears for you
Deep as I am, I'm no ones fool
Weak as I am
Utari:
In this tainted soul
In this weakened heart
Am I too much for you?
Nauplius:
In this tainted soul
In this weakened heart
Am I too much for you?
Ché:
In this tainted soul
In this weakened heart
Am I too much for you?
Ché: Weak as I am
Utari: Weak as I am
Nauplius: Weak as I am
Ché, Nauplius and Utari: Weak as I am, am, am
Utari: Weak as I am, Am I to much for you?
Nauplius: Weak as I am, Am I to much for you?
Ché: Weak as I am, Am I to much for you?
Ché, Nauplius and Utari: Weak as I am

Anyways, going on with my recent dibble dabbling in old musical styles, I've been binge listening to some Mongolian music. I even learned that amazing sound with the flute like whistling along with reverb bass is actually a fucking human being making it and not an instrument involved in any way. (Don't judge, it's only recent years I've started listening to any kind of ancient, folk or medieval or anything pre-20th century ;_;)

Yesterday it was Eurythmics, pretty much all day as I either crawled around under my trailer in the wet and freezing cold, or drove around town on errands. But today I'm digging Johnny Cash's Hurt (https://youtu.be/vt1Pwfnh5pc). It's not only one of the few country songs I can tolerate, but actually like. There's something very blues-esque about it.

Been appreciating Metallica's return to form lately. After the mixing nightmare that Death Magnetic (otherwise maybe one of their best albums of all time) this was an absolute redemption story. Fantastic, if possibly a bit forgettable tunes that weren't mixed into one flat bar. Here Comes Revenge (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpF8Wa2yQH0) and their absolutely delectable tribute to Lemmy "Murder One" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Mkq6GFLIsk) are particularly noteworthy.
They might never be the most unique, the heaviest, the technically best, etc etc... but Metallica will never be someone that can be simply denied. The "Hardwired... to self destruct" album is a return of the titans.
Edit: Full disclosure, this album pushed me over the edge towards buying yet another instrument I'll have the full intent of learning and mastering, which'll eventually turn into another dusty clothes rack. An electric guitar will go nicely with the keyboard, bass guitar and violin I've got as display pieces.

A simple and happy folksong reinterpretation for jazz ensemble.

I've heard that people in this community like hats, and then a game about hats crossed my path, so here (http://youtu.be/SHvhps47Lmc)'s some music from that game and maybe try it out if hats are your thing.
May it bring you peace and tranquility.

Well-known by now, but Kris Straub, in addition to being a cast member on AcqInc: C Team, runs a little YouTube video project called Local58. Matter is sort of like SCP lite but I dig it.
