Hey there,
I’ve started playing around with my text editor and have decided to do a “Who’s Who in Greater Amarria?”. The idea is that everyone who relates himself to Greater Amarria and is (self-)important enough, should appear there and write 300 words about himself.
For a specimen look at Odelya’s bio on page 3 (attached). I believe it will be a nice way to present ourselves to a broader public and thus give new players an idea of what kind of people and directions of rp exist, and to help them to access the rich history of roleplay in EVE. So people like Rodj Blake, Merdaneth, Graelyn, Laerise, Sinjin Mokk, Invelious, Lyn Farel, Shalee Lianne, Eran Mintor, Gangleri, Grr and so many other should definitely appear there.
Every sheet features a portrait, the name of the pilot in Latin and “Amarrian” (plus a margin in “Khanid”), titles, corporation, birthday and place, race and corp logos. Underneath there is place for approx. 300 words of description, following no specific pattern. The finished product is planned to be published at the IGS and I will try to get attention of ISD.
The layout is still work in progress. Let me know what you think and start typing those 300 words ;) Suggestions are much welcome! I hope you like it.
Best,
Odelya

oo, looks interesting. best of luck with it :)
-
Nice.
I have to admit I am having a hard time understanding why arabish text here and there though. Not that I dislike the language at the contrary, and I know some bits of Amarr society are persian, but it... annoys me, dunno why. Does not look very amarrish to me in that state.
-
Hey,
Thanks Louella!
@Lyn: There is Arabic (Amarr) and Uyghur/Mongolian (Khanid) script in it because I found it boring to just have Latin script around. For me it aesthetically appealing and very Amarrish. Will be difficult to please everyone, but I would love to have your bio in :)

Odelya

Don't get me wrong, I find it aesthetical and I am not displeased by it. I just find it weird. Not sure why. ^^
Of course you can pick up parts of my bio if you want to. Not sure if it would be very logical to see Lyn in an amarrian book (or is it OOC ?). Or maybe like a kindof heretical example...
-
I see, nobody is interested. Good, I’ll just skip it. It’s your loss.
You know, it is really fun to be part of the Amarr bloc! You will find the most responsive and pleasant-natured people there in all of EVE.
-
:(
*hugs*
-
Working on my entry. Be patient. ;)
-
:/
Well, as I said I find it very interesting and can participate but I am not sure if my character fits in this. Can you precise if this is an OOC or IC thing ? And if IC, what kind of IC book ?
-
I admit, I didn't read this until recently, and am working on it right now.

Odelya - it's not that people aren't interested, it's that this was just a particularly poor weekend to start a new project with everyone focused on Monoclegate. Now that Zulu's calmed people down a bit, other things are coming to people's attention.
I'm looking forward to seeing the results; I know someone who might have something to add, but they don't play actively at the moment. I'll try and give them a prod and see if they're interested. :)
-
Should the articles be posted here or privately messaged, and are there any barriers to entry? Should the description be from first person perspective or third?
-
Alrighty, perhaps my reaction was a bit premature. Let’s wait and see how many interested people show up and if we get a critical mass of “importance”.

The “Who’s Who” is supposed to be IC, a private prosopographical publication for the interested public. While it is IC, it also serves OOC aims, that is to make the Amarrian roleplay and its players more accessible to beginners and the interested. So I would really love to see some of the old warhorses to submit their bios.
Don’t take this personal, dear warhorses,1 but whenever something new happens many of you seem to be the first to say “Nay!” or get offended (at least IC), because someone forget to mention you did this and that. Well, how can we know? I am playing EVE for two years now and I just wasn’t there when you saved the Empire. Here is a chance to change this.
Should the articles be posted here or privately messaged, and are there any barriers to entry? Should the description be from first person perspective or third?
Thank you! For the sake of clarity, I suggest you send them via pm. The description should be in third perspective. I don’t think an explicit barrier is necessary. IC every capsuleer is important.
Since this publication isn’t written get, there are many things we can do with it. We could add some flavours and directions to it.

Thanks for your support!
1I am not meaning someone in this thread!

Thanks for the answer.
My question was also about the political orientation of the book. Is it meant to be a very orthodox book that you will release for the children in classrooms (I am exagerating on purpose), or a book more meant to be neutral and willing to gather all the amarrian loyalist capsuleers ? Because it would not make much sense if my character was mentionned in the first case, or at least as someone considered as a bad example or even an heretical example. In the second case however...
-
This certainly looks interesting!
I don't think Raze qualifies as "important" though, so I'll just be reading from the side lines.
-
Yeah I'm thinking Victoria isn't really important enough to qualify for her own page.
-
I'll do a bio though I'm pretty much like yourself, a 'youngblood' in the grand scheme of things and not one of the old 'war horses'.
But since you named Shalee in your original post, I'll write up something.
I think if you want to get everyone's attention of those you want in the book, you should in-game mail them. I'm notoriously bad about reading forums until someone points me towards something. The same might be said for a few others, they might not have even seen this. I'll point Eran & a few others to this post too since you named him as well.
I think it's a really fun project and will be happy to be a part of it.

Thank you, Lyn, an interesting and important question! We can leave this open for discussion and see what others might want or say. At first I had the thought to make it appear like a document intended for internal use only. Like from the Ministry of Internal Order or maybe something like a guideline form from ΛCN that somehow leaked. This would explain the judgemental language and why both conservatives and liberals are mentioned. I still think it is a good idea. What do you think? It would provide us with the means to have some distance when writing about our characters. When reading Odelya’s entry it should become pretty obvious that she is a somewhat pretentious and certainly narcissistic person. Well, she wouldn’t put it that way. She also wouldn’t refer to her “Gallentean period” publicly. A guy from the ΛCN, however, would.
@Raze & Victoria. I disagree. I don’t know you yet, but as a capsuleer you are important enough to be mentioned. If you have a story to tell, tell it. Even if the message (e.g. from a ΛCN perspecitve) is: This guy is completely unimportant.

Thanks, Shalee, I loved to read that. Spread the news! :) I will ask some more people directly and have already sent a message through a loyalist channel. (I didn’t get a reaction [yet?]). If you know someone that should be in, let him know what’s going on! Thank you!

I think it is a good idea. Can also be quite funny for me to depict Lyn in a bad light, and insist on her wicked side.
-
Alrigthy, people! I have received one mini biography so far—thanks Louella!
I will be on a retreat for a week and be more than happy to compile the document after my return. So send me your private messages that we may keep this project running! Please include titles, birthdays and styles of address!
Best,
Odelya

Wow, very nice.
I'll see what I can do.
-
This is awesome. I love the look of the publication.

I'd argue that Raze is pretty popular, seeing as he comes up in Summit discussions when you're not online.
Kemekk on the other hand is a nobody :(
-
Maybe not to capsuleer eyes, but do not forget that capsuleers are celebrities in themselves in the lore. Where is that "Did you know... that the IGS is read by a lot of commoners and source of heated debates among them ?" already ?
Not that it means only capsuleers on the IGS are famous, my point is that they are more or less de facto.
-
Sorry it's taking longer than I meant, you'll have a short bio on Raze by Friday.
-
Should I put something together or is this limited to the more loyal Amarrians? Vicky's loyalty to the Empire is a little bent.

Oh yes, indeed please do so ;)

By any means, you should appear here.
Here is what I’ve got so far (not entirely edited): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=D82ARNO4
Just keep writing :)
See you soon!
-
Great idea though you may have to do some of the writing yourself as some of the biggest movers and shakers in the short history of Amarrian pod pilots are not ones to "promote" themselves. Just look at Gangleri your old CEO for example or some of the people behind the scenes in CVA who did more for the Empire than most the people you see screaming on IGS these days.
You also may want to check out a few of the eon articles on people who are no longer around such as Hardin or Grr.
I look forward to seeing this develop :)
-
Thank you for your support, Grr!
To be frank: I am not going to write panegyrics for people who don't care to answer EVE mails or show any reaction. Eulogies for people who are no longer in game are fine for me, and I would love to write about Gangleri. (Anyone seen Tobias Primus recently?) But you could write something about Grr yourself if you like the idea! I would love it. From an IC perspective Grr would have nothing to with it, she wouldn't be the author. So where's the problem? ;)
Right now, two people have submitted entries. Some more have shown interest. That's fine, let's see how it evolves. If in the end we have only five entries, it won't be a tragedy. Just a wasted oppurtunity.
-
(Anyone seen Tobias Primus recently?)
He declared war on Electus Matari a few months back, turned up for a few fights, never saw him again.
-
Still struggling to get an internet connection back so still working on it :/
-
I'll be offline for the next two months. Let's see where it will go afterwards. Thanks again for your interest, fly safe and see you soon!
-
As Grr said, all you will get this way is those people who think they're important enough to write about themselves... which, as life turns out to work, are usually not that important in the big scheme of things :P
-
I have to admit that you and Grr are right. Maybe more than I first thought. I will use a different approach when I am back from Iran. Add some flavour and twist and do most of the writing myself.
That doesn’t mean that contributions aren’t welcome anymore. To the contrary. So start writing about yourself! :)
-
Yup, no offense, but thats how it is.
Take care and be safe mate :)
-
It would be more work for you, Odelya, but it may help to work with each pilot a bit on what you'd like them to write and/or focus on. Call it "editor's slant" or whatever. That way they'd know how you'd like to "paint" the pilot.
-
I'd agree.
My full bio is listed here on this site. Shrinking it down to the size you want will require focusing on certain aspects and leaving others out.
-
Oh sorry, have not yet found the time and motivation to send you something Odelya.... :/
But if you need, you can use my page on evelopedia (link in my ingame bio).
-
Howdy,
I just wanted to let you know that I haven't abandoned this project, I am just über-busy at the moment and don't know when I can continue...
Fly safe!
