Thoughts: Salvage drones. 8) Mannar knife fighting? Nice to see the inside of Gallente megacorp politics. And...

Dammit you beat me to the joke. ;)

Nice to see a Gallente megacorp in action.
And yes, Quafe hasn't been exactly a white hat corporation even before, mixing mind control drugs in one of their product prototypes. Wonder how difficult it would be to, like, syntethise flavouring agents, though...

...mixing mind control drugs in one of their product prototypes.
That would be Quafe Unleashed! ;)
Seriously though. I joked about this subject a couple of times... but didn't think they'd do it.
...wonder if Blackjack has a case of them.

Reminds me of something...
Hmm... (http://homebasecomics.com/blog/2009/04/25/the-collectors/)
Interesting chron. I'm not entirely sure what Gheyr Aillon'd plot was, since it seems he knows he'd be caught. Perhaps he was just getting the wealth from the project and then going into hiding? I might be missing something there though.

I note that they give the average number of bodies recovered from a capusleer engagement where 30 ships are destroyed at 1,000.
I don't really have a good feel for how many ships in an engagement like that are likely to be battleships vs cruisers vs frigates, but it seems to me that this implies a very good escape and survival rate for crew on those ships destroyed.

Interesting to see how Gallente megacorporations are basically Practicals. They have no reason to behave on any other route than to make money, really.

I think it is important to remember the Federal government can place restrictions on the activities of corporations in its jurisdiction. The State, at least in its "ideal" form, can not do so. This likely means CreoDron and Quafe (who have stations in the State) are doing something the Federal government might frown upon.
-
Profit motive (ie. greed) is a pretty universal concept. ;)
-
Note on numbers recovered: Some bodies might make it alive. Some might not be recognizable bodies. Not all might be possible to recover, even. So without additional knowledge, the numbers can be twisted in either direction.
On a related note, wasn't it mentioned somewhere that True Slaves were also recovering survivors? Also, Boundless Creations used to have a recovery service - likely several similar corps around EVE (in addition to Sisters of EVE, who also recover people).
-
I liked this chronicle.
Also imagine a Gallente Adult Holovideo exclusive brand made of Exotic Dancers
Quafe Eros - Don't be a pussy, Drink it!

Both of those groups actually get passing mentions in the chron. :)

Hmmm, this seems familiar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soylent_Green)

This news article is what I think your referring to: Sansha Vessels Seen Picking Amongst the Dead (http://www.eveonline.com/news.asp?a=single&nid=2177&tid=2)
Notably the Angel Cartel are mentioned in The Burning Life as having their own group which picks up escape pods and likely doubles as corpse retrieval. I imagine most factions operate similar services for morale, religious, or economic reasons leaving capsuleer losses the most profitable target for independent harvesters.
-
I have seen that Angel ship (http://lorebook.eve-inspiracy.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=55:angel-recovery-team&catid=16:angel).
-
Yes, the Salvation Angels (http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Salvation_Angels_(NPC_corporation)) do exactly that.
The Salvation Angels are the non-combat division of the Angel Cartel. The Salvation Angels are responsible for building and maintaining the Angels stations and space ships. For this, they frequently salvage what they need from the wrecks their fellow Angels have left behind.
Emphasis mine.

True, but that doesn't seem to be the motivation here. At least not that I can see. Aillon seemed to know he'd be caught and discovered. He had a scapegoat ready, but even with a scapegoat, the project would be shut down. And he'd likely have egg on his face either way. So I'm not seeing what he gets out of putting people into Quafe+.

Yoshito! That story is awesome! 8)

Tangentially related!
I shot some corpses to stop them falling into the hands of Teh Ebil Sansha!one!!!
It also means that The Evil Quafe doesn't get their hands on them either!
As for the dude, Aillon, as well as embezzlement, perhaps the mining explosion that killed his parents was something to do with a Quafe-owned mining corporation?

Not to go too far afield: does that mean you mostly salvaged NPC cargo from wrecks, or just salvaging wrecks on gates in general?
-
opened wrecks and containers, looking for people. Found some.
did a little salvaging.
shot any corpses I saw.

I can fully agree. Liked it a lot.
-
Thanks. Of all my EVE stories, that may be my favorite. It's just so messed up in so many ways.
-
Why do Quafe need to use people to make their drinks anyway? Carbonated water, chemicals....not hard.
-
Flavoring agents, as the story said. Surely you don't think that creating specific organic chemicals is "not hard"... really?
-
When they made the font style to Quafe similar to Slurm, you weren't going to expect scary secrets, Seri? ;)
-
I just skimmed the article, and am following everyone else's reports of how it basically is another people = Quafe thing
-
Read the chronicle Seri.
While the surface read is "Quafe+ uses people as an ingredient," there is much more to it than the surface read.
It is about how megacorporations work. It is about Quafe acquiring and using a small business. Its about young star managers using the acquired business's product in a larger corporate project. Lastly, when it was found out the larger project was doing something unsavory, blamed it on the small business's prior leadership and destroyed their lives.
It is about greed and plausible deny-ability. Thrown into the story is metrics on how many die in a small capsuleer engagement or deadspace.
To answer your question: Why do Quafe need to use people to make (Quafe+)?
The same reasons people like pig Bacon and not turkey Bacon. The same reason it is preferable for capsuleer (and other) clones to be made out of human biomass versus cow biomass.
-
I, for one, like turkey bacon. :P
-
Also, in the Eve style there are no real good guys.
We could empathize; we knew what it was like to lose a loved one to the dark void. Verine wasn’t lucky enough to have a funeral. But others could be, and we provided that service. It was dangerous work – we lost about 20% of our workers on the death marches – but it gave someone closure. We didn’t want to be profitable, but there was too much business to be had.
20% mortality rate is staggering, even if counted over time and not for each separate mission.

High protien and zero carbs.
