Title: Beansnakes Grand Opening - Competition
Post by: Sparkahn on 27 Jun 2010, 09:53
Welcome to Beansnakes

Beansnakes (join channel Beansnakes) is Anshar Incorporated's new IC public channel. Instead of going for just another corp IC bar, we opted for something a little more uncommon; a coffee shop! Due to our specific IC affiliations, we also decided it would be interesting to try and incorporate something relevant, and the coffee shop idea gave us leeway to do this.

I thought I'd give everyone a pointer to see how the coffee shop works. Background on Espresso is beneficial, but I'll go through the basics here.

Coffee beans are ground into a fine-ish powder, which is then measured out, compressed, and has pressurised boiling water pushed through it. The result is a liquid called Espresso! We at Beansnakes add a weakened, powdered booster to the coffee grounds (which gives them a unique colour depending on the type of booster), then filter the water through to give a Booster Blend™ Espresso shot. This can then be added to water or milk or frothy milk or flavour syrups or anything (within reason!) to make certain types and tastes of coffee, with an extra kick from the boosters!

To remove any doubt and hopefully pre-emptively answer some questions, the powdered booster is not potent enough to give the specific effect the in-game versions would, they just give some sort of perk-up/mild high/relaxant in tandem with the caffeine. Beansnakes coffees are not contraband in highsec due to the weak booster quantities and the impossibility of extracting the booster from the coffee once it is made. The quantity in which it is transported to the store is contraband however (despite the fact that any effect can only be gained when mixed with caffeine), hence Beansnakes's lowsec location. Also, the boosters are powdered (using a secret method) and shipped in from a secret location, and when they arrive they are hooked up to fluid vats which neutralise the powder when security is tripped, so attempting to rob Beansnakes is so not worth it! The security fluid vats are more to protect the secrets of the powdering process than against robbery. As a side note, the coffee is sourced from Amod III, the most local temperate planet, so is as fresh as can be!

Here are the (unofficial) names for the Booster Blends™ and the boosters with which they are combined. I'm afraid you'll have to look at Eve for their respective colours.
Banish (Exile)
Cadere (Drop)
Frantic  (Frentix)
Shaman (Sooth Sayer)
Arresto (Crash)
Flood (Mindflood)
Instinctivo (X-Instinct)
Blue Shade (Blue Pill)

We at Beansnakes hereby hold our OFFICIAL OPENING COMPETITION!
The Competition is to come up with a Special coffee incorporating our Booster Blends. The top three most creative and interesting will be permanent specials on our listing boards AS WELL AS receiving all you need to start your own coffee plantation and an added bonus:
1st Prize: 1 Elite Temperate Command Centre + Beansnakes official branded Federation Navy Comet!
2nd Prize: 1 Advanced Temperate Command Centre + 10 Sisters Core Scanner Probes
3rd Prize: 1 Improved Temperate Command Centre + 100 Synthetic Coffee

Here are a couple of random specials already on the Beansnakes board:
Fall [Shot of Arresto, shot of Cadere, boiling water and cream]
Native [A Shaman Latte, with crushed mint and mint syrup stirred in]

When thinking about specials, try and take into account the colours, flavours, looks, and how the drinks are served. Think fancy alcoholic cocktails (Mojito/Sex on the Beach etc) but with coffee + milk and/or water + syrubs or other interesting ingredients. However, please do not include alcohol. Yes, there are such things as boozy coffees, but we're trying to steer away from potential bar brawls etc, and hopefully the Booster Blends will be a worthy alcohol substitute.

As a bonus competition, the last 3 Booster Blend names (Flood, Instinctivo, Blue Shade) aren't particularly inspiring, so whoever gives all three the best names will have their efforts immortalised on the Beansnakes Booster Blend board for all eternity!

Please post all entries, as well as all other questions or your $0.02 on Beansnakes on this thread. The closing date for enties will be 11th July (two weeks from now). Try and keep your entries informative but relatively brief, as there is not a lot of room on our specials board for heavy detail and emotive language!

aww, you missing Crystal Egg. That ones my favorite.

Unfortunately after numerous attempts, Crystal Egg failed to powder in the correct manner in accordance with Beansnakes brand standards, nor did it mix well with caffeine, or in fact hot milk. Due to its popularity, work on the Booster Blend of Crystal Egg is still on-going. We'll keep you posted on any developments in this regard!

Very clever, and kudos for not contributing any further to the alcoholism epidemic (and starting another).

Crash Dive: 1 shot Arresto, 1 shot Flood, sweetener, brew and serve cold as the waters of Caldari Prime. Over the beverage, place a thin layer of shaved ice and a further layer of heavy cream.

True Bean Slave - Triple shot espresso, that must be applied in this order: Arresto, Instictivo, and finally Frantic. Splash with either mocha or amaretto flavoring and sweetener. Top with a 'stain' of cream.

Preferred by students frustrated by the high toll of studying requested by facilities like School of Applied Knowledge and Center for Advanced Studies, overnight cram sessions can become remarkedly easy by this delicious and habit forming beverage. It wires you without having the jitters, keeping you focused at the task at hand while feeling a slight rush of euphoria.

Wandering Orbital:  A shot of Blue Shade plus a shot of Shaman, mixed with cinnamon and milk, served steaming hot.  The effect is warming and relaxing (and magenta), sharpening memories while relaxing the mind.  The end result is a heightened trip down Memory Lane, accompanied by a sense of fond nostalgia.  It also tastes great!

Not long to go everyone! If you've been thinking of entering and haven't yet, now is the time, as the competition closes at midnight on Sunday! If you need some inspiration, pop into Beansnakes IC and see if the atmosphere of our coffee shop can help!

BeaNaughty

This Machiavellian coffee tingles senses on the verge of decency… teasing lovers in an addictive and intimate brew.
BeaNaughty is served in a U-shaped container for two, with black coffee and a drop of cherry syrup, under snowflakes of whip cream sprinkled with roasted almond crisps. Two apparently similar drinking straws lay on each side of the container. One incorporates Exile with a slight touch of Blue Pill, while the other is Frentix mixed with a hint of Blue Pill…
Choose one and… see what happens.

Pattern Juggler: A shot of Instinctivo, and a shot of Frantic, served hot in a soothing herbal tea with steamed milk. The analytical and relaxtive boost of Instinctivo combines with the pain relief powers of Frantic to clear the head of drinker and let them focus clearly on their problems, juggling complex problems into workable solutions.

The results are finally in!

Yes, it's been a whole week of tense waiting and fervent deliberation, but the judges have finally decided who the fabulous prizes will be awarded to!

But first, it must be said that we at Anshar Incorporated were extremely impressed by all entries. Therefore, if there is no objection, we would like to use all the entries on our specials board! However, do let us know if you are not happy about this.

So, on to the results - *drum-roll please*...

1st place goes to...

Arvo Katsuya! We liked how you managed to incorporate current goings-on with your coffee, and could relate to how your coffee could be put to use! Well done!

2nd place goes to...

Simon Coal! Loved the thought that was put into the looks, and you put real emphasis on how the Booster Blends would affect the customer.

Finally, 3rd place goes to...

Nikita Alterana! Once again, the effect on the customer from the booster was a major player here, coupled with the catchy and fitting name.

Well done to the three of you, and expect an Eve Mail within the next few days regarding your prizes!

Commiserations to those who entered but did not win, but thanks for entering anyway! Special mention to Ken whose "bitter elitism" as an ingredient choice made us chuckle, and as the only one to suggest new names for the three Blends in line for re-branding. However, as there was only one entry for this part of the competition, the names will currently stay as they are.

Make sure you all pop into Beansnakes at some point to sample the entrants' coffees and socialise with other patrons. Also, keep an eye out for other competitions, as we'll no doubt run some more in the future!

The amount of detail put into a corp's IC channel is quite... detailed.

Very interesting. I'm getting sucked into this more and more each day.
