Steam Hacked
« on: 11 Nov 2011, 16:57 »

Just spreading the word, since I know people on here are also on Steam.  Apparently they got hacked and credit card info MIGHT have been stolen.

Article here.

Right now, no mandatory password resets or any evidence that any credit card info was taken but they are warning everyone to watch out, just in case.

FORUMS were hacked.

FORUMS.
"We learned that intruders obtained access to a Steam database in addition to the forums. This database contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information."

Valve won't confirm whether that information was actually taken.

Doesn't matter. All credit card info etc was apparently encrypted AES 256 anyway. That's not gonna be brute forced.

Watson did it. He's now going to social-engineer the decryption passwords.

I'd say this is the point we should act to prevent the extinction of humanity, but this is probably a good sign. The machines are moving away from genocide towards ordinary crime. And that's something they'll never be able to outdo us on.
