Just a bit of a reminder, since it seems to be something people avoid doing:
We have no rule against necroing threads, and in fact encourage it as an alternative to re-posting a similar thread. It has benefits, including keeping a similar discussion all in one thread, and allowing people who may not have been around for the original thread see some discussion they might otherwise miss.
This has been a PSA sponsored by NHB Ultra Happy Chips™ - now in strawberry!
Thanks!

Perhaps you should/could remove that big bad red warning message when we're about to necro a thread? That sends a pretty strong signal that it's frowned upon, and is probably the cause of people avoiding necros.

I know, and that's one of the reasons I wanted to let people know it is kosher to post. We can see about possibly taking that out - it's built into the software by default. Edit: Found and (hopefully) disabled. Thanks.

Yup, it's gone now. At least on my end

Maybe it could actually be better to just alter the text warning ? Sometimes it is always good to have a reminder that a thread is... well, old.
-
I think not having a warning box pop up is better. Otherwise, people might think 'Warning box, maybe I shouldn't reply'.
-
Bumping, in case people need the reminder.
We don't mind people raising threads from the dead on Backstage, so there's no need to make a fuss over it.
-
Of course Silver would have no problem with something ancient rising from the distant past.....
-
I'll .gif you even if mods think it's kosher.

As someone who has been known to necro a thread or two, I'll say the comments on it and the various amusing image memes people post don't bother me.
If nothing else, they let people who might not know it's a necro realize what's going on.
Nothing like spending time on a post and realizing the person you're responding to hasn't been around for seven months.
